The purpose of the ‘Birding in China’ website is to highlight the wonderful diversity of birds and habitats that exist here in China, using my own photographs to illustrate the variety of China’s avifauna. I arrived in China in 2008 and as such the nearly 2,000 photographs published on this website have been amassed over an extensive 15-year period, involving approaching 100 trips throughout the country, including all of China’s 23 Provinces, 5 Autonomous Regions, 2 Special Autonomous Regions and 4 Municipalities. I live and work in Shanghai, China, and am fortunate enough to have a very rewarding career in international retail which has supported my interest in the Birds of China.

There are over 1,400 species recorded on the China Bird List (1,300 in Mainland China) and of that number around 100 are endemic to China (70 in Mainland China with 30 in Taiwan). Yunnan and Sichuan are the two Provinces with the highest number of bird species in China at over 800 species each, nearly 60% of the total. In terms of endemic birds, Sichuan Province with 46 endemic species is the Province with the highest number of recorded endemics at around two-thirds of the Mainland China total. As such, have conducted approaching 20 trips to these two Provinces alone in an effort to photograph its avifauna.

据“中国鸟类名录”记载，中国享有1400余种鸟类（大陆地区享有1300种），其中，约100种属中国特有（大陆地区70种，台湾30种）。云南和四川均拥有800余种鸟类，是中国鸟类品种最多的两个省份，几乎占总数的60%。此外，四川拥有46类中国特有品种，是含中国特有品种最多的省份，约占大陆地区特有鸟类总数的三分之二。因此，我多次（约20次）旅行至云南和四川，拍摄两地的鸟类。
